Volkswagen says It’s “Fun to Drive”

Friday, October 26th, 2007

The genius behind the VW parts have come up with another brainchild, the Road Joy initiative. Volkswagen Canada is now helping foster a positive vibe among drivers on the road. The company emphasized that it is “Fun to Drive”, and that it is now time to face out all the negative things that drivers tend to do on the road. For instance, at one point or another, any driver could relate to these incidents: yelling at other drivers; (even worse) cursing at other drivers; rolling the windows down to pick an argument with who drives lame; or even attempting to damage another car.

With a little help from the television and print houses, this campaign is all set to influence the people. The makers of the VW parts is urging drivers to replace these negative acts into “blatant”, positive, random acts of road joy. For instance, would it hurt to smile at other drivers? This initiative is sure to foster a harmonious traffic flow in Canada. Drivers are encouraged to go to VW Canada’s site and choose from the list of the 150 acts of Road Joy. Site visitors could even suggest their own little ways to perform Road Joy acts, and get updates regarding the development of this project.

It is not so hard to be positive, is it? Today it is just the highways of Canada, but tomorrow—let us hope that it could be the world. So start doing your little acts of joy too, and flash those pearly whites.

Volkswagen Up! Upgrades

The Next VW Beetle?

After Volkswagen’s success at the Frankfurt auto show, they said, “it ain’t over yet” at the Tokyo Motor Show. The German carmaker has upgraded the VW parts of the Up! Concept. It is now bigger, kind of more reminiscent to a Beetle, and it uses state-of-the-art craftsmanship to maximize the seating capacity. (The front passenger seat could also be turned around for more space, or just for the enjoyment of it.) This car is named the Space Up!, which is fitting to what it did to its predecessor Up! This is like a supersized version, only better. Many people have been commending this car even at first sight.

Complete with high-quality VW parts, the Space Up! is said to be Volkswagen’s next big thing after the Beetle. It uses the same rear engine bay style, and even its interiors are all interesting. Dressed in smooth leather colored in two-tones, inside the Space Up! is where you want to be. Its dashboard is stylishly clean, not much cluttered, just simple and smooth. This four-seater wonder has a “rear-hinged rear doors on both sides” to give access to the back seats. For extra cargo, just open the barn-door styled double latch—which is very similar to that of the Mini Cooper Clubman.

This new offering from Volkswagen has received the nods of many critics, and is even said to be better than the Fox. Will Volkswagen send this baby to run in the market anytime soon? We shall find out.

Volkswagen Launches Park Assist Features

The Touran TDI Sport Photo By Auto Express

Along with the latest VW Touran TDI Sport comes the latest technology from the makers of the VW parts. It is called the Park Assist. But, while we are all too familiar with other park assist features from other carmakers, the one from Volkswagen is a whole lot different. This one revolutionizes the term “hands-free driving”. All that the driver has to do is to find a parallel parking space, and then hit the Park Assist button. There are two (discreetly mounted) sensors on the front bumper. They estimate the space of the desired parking space and then calculate if the Touran can fit into it or not. Here is where the magic unfolds: if the space is right for the Touran, then the driver will only shift to reverse, and then let go of the steering wheel. (Do not let go of the accelerator and the brakes though.) The Touran will then park itself.

As if a steering wheel possessed by some spirit, it will be moving on its own to achieve a perfect parking. This latest modification to the VW parts is definitely impressive. But it does not come in readily available with the models. It is an optional feature which could be installed for an additional 500 Euros. The same family car that the Touran has been known for still comes alive in the Touran TDI Sport. Some noticeable enhancements can be seen in the interiors, and the total physique of the car. If they will implement this technology to all Volkswagen cars like the Beetle, they will surely be overwhelmed with thousands of Beetle lovers!

The VW Bus Turns 60!

The VW Beetle's brother---the VW Bus!

Another iconic car of the Volkswagen company is the Type 2, or the VW Bus. This vehicle is said to be the Beetle’s “brother”, as the love bug was named Type 1. This makes the bus the second car to be designed by the German carmaker. This weekend, Volkswagen, together with a lot of people who enjoyed the VW parts of the Bus, will be celebrating its 60th birthday in the industry. Sixty glorious years of being an old school utility vehicle and an iconic ride is not easy to achieve. After all, what other vehicle has that? You will find none, because the VW Bus is one of a kind.

Ideally good for long trips on the road, family cars, or even business vehicles—the VW bus definitely made its niche in the market, thanks to its high-quality VW parts. But this legend will not be hogging the limelight during its rightful celebration. The stage will be shared with legendary rock idols as well—The Who. This very appropriate combination of two unparalleled entities will really rock the Hanover Exhibition Centre. About hundreds of timeless and beautifully designed VW buses were expected to commemorate the occasion.

Since its early beginnings, the VW bus has become a witness of the generation too. From carrying families, to hippies, to rock band wannabes, to being utility vehicles—the VW bus has definitely seen it all. In fact, they even had some significant cameos in films like the award-winning Little Miss Sunshine, among others. With all that it has achieved, we can only say, happy, happy 60th birthday VW bus!

Happy 60th Birthday!

Heidi Klum and Seal Go for Volkswagen

It’s not a runway, it’s not a concert…and no, it is not a pictorial fo

Confessed VW beetle-lover Heidi Klum and husband Seal

r one of the most ideal couples of today. It is the biggest partnership yet—the makers of VW parts ties up with Golden Couple Heidi Klum and Seal! The German carmaker chose to make Klum and Seal as the brand ambassadors for the Tiguan, because they were “…a modern patchwork family. They are natural and unpretentious personalities, tolerant and globally orientated—and thus represent values which can be attributed to Volkswagen, too,” Mr. Stephan Grushem, head of Group Communications at Volkswagen explained.

Family Ride---The New Ambassadors for the Tiguan

The three-year partnership was launched at the Automobilforum held at Berlin last September. Seal was reportedly an enthusiast of the VW parts, maintaining close ties with the company since the launch of the new Passat two years ago. This singer will be serenading the people with the soundtrack of the Tiguan’s ads. Klum, on the other hand, was quite reminiscent of her younger years driving around town in their family’s VW bus. The famous German native is now a proud owner of two New Beetles: a hardtop and a convertible one. Klum was also notably the most famous German in the US, so this strategy for Volkswagen is also a way of making the US market grow. Well, with three beautiful entities tied together for an ideal ride—the Tiguan—let us not hold our breaths longer because this will surely be a successful campaign.

Volkswagen wants to be “The Auto”

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

The Badge that the VW Beetle made Immortal

The new tagline of everyone’s beloved creator of the VW parts is now “Das Auto”. This simply translates to, “The Auto”. Pretty soon, this will surely be used in worldwide campaigns as well. Perhaps the main goal of this German carmaker is to make people think of Volkswagen together with the word “car”. They launched this new tagline at the recently concluded Frankfurt Motor Show, replacing their old one, “Aus Liebe zum Automobil” or “For the Love of the Automobile”.

This simple but very smart strategy of Volkswaggen will help them achieve their goals better because this clears the path that the company should take. More than supplying people with the high-quality VW parts, Volkswagen must also start thinking of their clients. What do the people want in a car? What does it take to be called “the car”? While these things have probably been mapped out by the company already, one thing holds true: with the creation of the iconic Beetle, many people have entrusted Volkswagen to create more ideal cars. Hence, here comes their role in fulfilling their task as “the car”. Do not be surprised if the children will begin to draw Beetles once they hear the word “car”. For in time, this will not be so impossible.
